In the early 1990's I was introduced to massage therapy by a counselor. After several sessions I was convinced. Massage therapy did help. Soon my husband and family started going also.
After many years in various types of office work I decided it was time for a career change.
Back then massage therapy schools were in the Madison and Milwaukee area. I quit my office job in 1994 and enrolled in a fulltime program at Lakeside School of Natural Therapeutics in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Since then I am proud to say that school changed its name to Lakeside School of Massage and expanded with an additional location in Madison. It has now moved to Herzing University in Brookfield Wisconsin.
Throughout the years Massage Therapists in Wisconsin have been Registered, Certified and now we are Licensed. This came to be in 2010. An active state license is required to practice massage therapy and bodywork therapy in Wisconsin. Specific educational requirements are needed along with certification in CPR/AED, sufficient liability insurance, continuing education and license fees.
Since 1994 I have been an active member of the American Massage Therapy Association. Continuing education is required to be a Professional Member.
